Writing The Girl

About The Girl?

Me! (and camera)

November, 2011:

Who am I and what do I do?  I hope to be able to answer these self-inflicted questions in the near (if not) future.

I find myself at a crossroad as of late.  I am trying to sort myself out artistically, personally and professionally.  Though not necessarily in that order.

Here is what I know for sure:

I want to write and be published.  Soon.  I want to be known as “A Writer”.

I love, and have always loved, the feel, the weight and the freedom of a camera in my hands.

Life interests me.  People fascinate me.  I am on a quest to see and capture, both with a lens and with pens, the beauty in my surroundings

So, welcome to my blog…with it, I will do my best to be insightful and candid…honest, but not harsh.

Morning Routine

January, 2013:

UPDATE!!

13 months after composing my “Who am I?” questions,  I can proudly say that I have an answer:

I used to think I was a girl who needed to be a lot of things…but taking the time to observe the world around me, and write about it, has shown me that keeping things simple is all I need:

I am a girl who writes – two novels currently on the go, actually!  I hope – and mean REALLY hope – to be able to complete at least one of them this year….

I am a girl who photographs – both out of love for the craft and loyalty to my trade.  You will most likely find me and trusty Canon out in the forest, capturing the world one twig and budding flower at a time.  Nature photography is my game.

I am a BLOGGER.  :)  A year of posting my thoughts and images has granted me the right to say so.

I am also a busy, busy girl – juggling family, job and all the usual items life throws at you.

Life is brisk.  Life is fun.  Life is whatever you make of it.

And I make the most of mine.

I also blog about it… a whole lot.  Stick around…you’ll see what I mean…

  1. The feel of your writing in your “Who am I” changed dramatically in those 13 months. Good for you!

  2. Thank you for stopping by my blog! I find yours interesting – your presentation sounds a bit like me…but for me, life is moving on so fast that I don’t know how to hang on. Hope to retire soon…and get a more “real” life. I admire people who do…find that real life.

  3. Thanks for the visit and the like. I enjoyed your 10 images post very much.

  4. Nice to meet you, thanks for visiting my blog.

  9. love your photography….wish I too had writing skills :P

  10. I’m sure you’ve heard this, it you have just such a fantastic “About” page – it is so sincere, and has a lot of resonance for me as well. Be well!

  11. I’ve been meaning to get on and say hi for months now but haven’t got around to it – just wanted to say that i love your blog, & as someone who doesn’t find that much time to devote to blogging, yours is the only one i currently go back to on a regular basis! Your lovely theme inspired me and i chose to use it for my blog too -thanks for your lovely words and pictures :o ))

  12. I feel ya! I want to be able to feel justified in calling myself “a writer” so badly I would be willing to do something drastic like stick a fork in my left eye. or something. It is so difficult getting a manuscript together though, a true one, not some crap thing you just wrote out of your ass, and then having the manuscript and preparing yourself for the fact that, though it is essentially your child, it is about to be rejected and ripped to shreds long before it ever has a chance of being accepted, published and polished so that you might walk into a barnes and noble and say, justifiably – I am a writer. See that over there? Yeah, that shit is mine.

    write on, sister. write on.

  13. Thank you so much for being on my blog! its wonderful here too!

  14. I really like your blog. It feels very unedited, like your thoughts just spilled on the paper, which is very endearing and honest. I can relate to you. I also love writing and photography. I just wanted to say hello and I will be reading again.

  15. Hi there,

  16. Thanks for “Liking” my post. It gives me a chance to be introduced to your blog. Thanks.

  17. I’m right there with you – thought I wouldn’t say crossroads so much as lost in the great big city of life. I’ve recently started my own writing project, something that this time I’d like to stick to and complete. I have no idea where it’s headed but if you’d like to have a look around, I take hate mail too :) http://comenovember.wordpress.com

  18. If you’re looking to be represented go take a look at ‘The Blair Partnership’. Great new literary agency that seems to be rising fast (Neil Blair just won JK Rowling’s representation when they began last year). We wish you well in your passion!

  19. Good luck with your writing. I have a blog on clear writing which I started last January. It may be viewed at clearwriting4u.com. Perhyaps you can find some tips there which will help you along. Arnold R.

  20. I love your blog! I can definitely relate to feeling like you’re at a crossroads and figuring out what it means to be “a writer” on your own terms. I look forward to reading more of your posts! Keep up the great work!

  21. Looks like we have more than lavender in common! My first short story is on Amazon as of a week ago! You are where you ought to be…at the meeting of preparation and opportunity. Do what I did and make a submission. See where it takes you. Best wishes! Jammie

    • Congratulations! You must be so excited!! I just have to gain the courage to take the plunge…thanks for inspiring me!! :)

      • It’s very exciting. Especially seeing my story in the best seller lists among well-known authors. Granted, I’m 46th and 70th in my categories, but STILL! Thanks for following! ;)

  22. I am excited I found your blog. You are the first that I will be following since I joined WordPress. I appreciate your honesty and feel we are very similar from the little I have read– and all the pictures I looked at. I know you enjoy taking close up shots the same way I do. The only difference is…I want to publish like nobody’s business! Maybe someday we can work together when I make it big as well. Good luck and thanks!

    • oh my! I am honoured to be your first follow! I was you, six months ago – Have fun, and be patient with yourself. Personally, this has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life!! :D Perhaps we do have paths that will intersect…Good luck and thanks for your kind words.

  23. As someone who is currently conducting that “who am I, what am I” self-examination, I wish you well in yours. I’ve been able to call myself a journalist, writer/editor, for a long time, but have never felt like the name “writer” was entirely mine to claim, because my dream is to write non-fiction — good stuff, I’ve written plenty of bad. Good luck!
    (And your photography is lovely.)

    • “welcometomylayoff” – I started my blog when I found myself “laid off” from a career path that was not really doing me any good to be in anyway. I am thankful I had that time examine my life and what it was I wanted to do with it. Blogging has helped immensely with that process – and opened many doors as well.

  24. Hey, I love your blog. Will be following to see how a kindred spirit gets on :)

  25. I nominated your blog for the Versatile Blogger Award– More info can be found here: http://skybluewithdaisies.wordpress.com/2012/06/15/versatile-blogger-thanks/. Have a nice day!

  26. nicely written. describing yourself, in a way of questioning yourself..
    happy blogging.

  27. Hi. I like your blog and works. I’m a frustrated writer. but hey, I guess I can blog it all away. :)

  28. It seems you are on your away to meet your goals; it starts with defining “what you know for sure” but know that you will continue to evolve throughout your lifetime, and that too is OK. Congrats on being freshly pressed!

  29. Great blog. I always love blogs with this kind of theme. It always gives that element of surprise when you click on the pictures at the front page. This is not my blog, just a blog I admire that has the same theme as yours …

  30. I’m a freelance photo- and travel journalist in South Africa. Your images are great, Janice! I’ve started out with my blog last week and enjoy it tremendously.

  31. Hey Janice….you have a good eye for photographs! Especially like the guitar ones and the ones on flicker, the berry’s in the snow! Nice work!!!

  32. Hope you don’t mind a link (that might be helpful) about being a writer (which I am professionally.) Good luck!
